The increasing cases of cyber fraud in America have increased the concern of banks. After the increase in fraud cases, some banks are now resorting to psychological methods along with technology. America’s largest bank JP Morgan has appointed behavioral scientists for this very purpose. According to the Internet Crime Complaint Center of the American investigative agency FBI, people will suffer a loss of more than Rs 2 lakh crore due to cyber crimes in 2025. This is 25% more than in 2024 and almost four times the Rs 42,000 crore in 2020. JP Morgan had appointed behavioral scientist Elisabeth Huppert two years ago. Their job is to explain to call center and bank branch employees how fraudsters gain people’s trust and make them doubt the advice given by banks. In many cases, fraudsters maintain contact with their victims for months and then get them to transfer the money themselves. Banks are now contacting customers directly in suspected cases. Scam experts try to wean customers out of the trap by asking questions and based on suspicion. Unusual interruptions, hesitations, or sharing the screen with another person when entering a bank password are signs of potential fraud.
