A woman was allegedly gang-raped and her friend thrashed after a group of men intercepted their car in Odisha’s Cuttack district, police said on Wednesday.
According to the police, the incident took place on Tuesday night in the Nischintakoili police station area of Cuttack district. The woman was travelling with her male friend from Bhubaneswar towards Kendrapara when their car was intercepted by a group of men, police said.
Narrating the incident further, SP (Cuttack Rural) Vinit Agrawal said the group comprised four to six men. He added that the accused fled the scene after the assault, leaving the woman and her friend on the roadside.
“When they stopped near Sukarpada village on the Cuttack-Chandbali Road, a group of four to six men intercepted them. The suspects thrashed the friend, and gangraped the woman,” Agrawal told PTI.
Following the incident, a case was registered based on the complaint lodged by the survivor, Agrawal said. He added that a DSP-rank officer has been appointed as the investigating officer to look into the matter.
“Multiple teams have been formed to nab the accused persons. We are hopeful that they will be arrested soon,” he said.
