Come 2027, the smartphone space as we know it might change. Apple’s iconic phrase from 2009, “There’s an app for that” might no longer be fitting enough, possibly replaced by the notion of “There’s an AI for that.” Bringing about this transformation could be OpenAI’s debut AI agent phone. This week, TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo opined that OpenAI is fast-tracking its development, and mass production could begin next year itself.
It’s only logical to expect this shift, as AI makes inroads everywhere. Anthropic just announced specialised AI agents for automating work at banks and financial institutions, even as Eric Schmidt-backed Genesis AI introduced a robotic hand that can do everything from playing the piano to chopping tomatoes.
In the smartphone space, this week witnessed the launches of photography-focused Vivo X300 Ultra and Vivo X300 FE, along with the 8,000mAh battery-backed OnePlus Nord CE 6, which was unveiled alongside its lesser sibling, the OnePlus Nord CE 6 Lite.
