Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated the Poonamallee-Vadapalani stretch of Phase II of the Chennai Metro Rail Project, developed at a cost of around Rs 4,900 crore. After the inauguration, he travelled by metro from Porur Bypass Station to Poonamallee Bypass Station and returned. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay was also present.

The Prime Minister is also scheduled to lay foundation stones and inaugurate a series of infrastructure and development projects across Tamil Nadu, covering highways, railways, ports, energy and scientific research.

Highway Projects Worth Rs 3,700 Crore

National Highway projects worth around Rs 3,700 crore will be inaugurated or launched to improve connectivity, ease congestion, reduce travel time and support economic growth in the state.

The Prime Minister will inaugurate the 36-km, four-laned Vadugapatti-Therkuvenganallur section of NH-744. The project is expected to improve access to key pilgrimage, industrial and commercial centres and facilitate the movement of people and goods.

He will also inaugurate the 30-km, four-laned Madurai Ring Road section of NH-744A to improve traffic flow around Madurai and ease congestion within the city.

The foundation stone will be laid for the four-lane Thiruvarur Bypass on the Nagapattinam-Thanjavur section of NH-83. The bypass is expected to provide an alternative route around the town, strengthen local connectivity and improve traffic movement.

Railway Projects Worth Over Rs 750 Crore

The Prime Minister will dedicate railway infrastructure projects worth more than Rs 750 crore to the nation, including the Karaikal-Peralam railway line, which will strengthen rail connectivity in the region.

Three rail flyovers in Coimbatore and nearby areas will also be dedicated. These projects are expected to ease congestion at busy level crossings, reduce waiting times and improve road safety.

Additionally, five redeveloped Amrit Stations — Palani, Vellore Cantonment, Ambasamudram, Paramakkudi and Namakkal — will be inaugurated under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, according to the release.

Chennai, VO Chidambaranar And Kamarajar Ports To Get Infrastructure Boost

Several port-related projects will be inaugurated or launched to strengthen Tamil Nadu’s maritime infrastructure, increase cargo-handling capacity and improve logistics efficiency.

At Chennai Port, the Prime Minister will inaugurate four projects: a Paved Storage Yard, four EXIM Godowns, an upgraded Cruise Terminal and a Seafarers Club.

The projects will expand cargo storage and warehouse capacity, modernise cruise passenger facilities to enable more passengers to embark and disembark simultaneously, and provide improved welfare, recreational and support facilities for visiting seafarers and maritime personnel.

Eight major development projects will be inaugurated or launched at VO Chidambaranar Port. They aim to expand cargo and container capacity, develop infrastructure for cleaner maritime energy and improve cargo evacuation and logistics within the port ecosystem.

At Kamarajar Port, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the Coal Berth-3 project and lay the foundation stone for capital dredging works for Container Terminal Phase-I, Stage-II, the release said.

Rs 1,620-Crore Lube Oil Base Stocks Project At Manali Refinery

The Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for the Group II/III Lube Oil Base Stocks (LOBS) project at the existing Manali Refinery of Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited (CPCL) in Chennai.

The project, estimated to cost around Rs 1,620 crore, will have a capacity of 270 thousand metric tonnes per annum (TMTPA). It aims to manufacture Group II/III Lube Oil Base Stocks for producing premium-quality lubricants in India.

IIT Madras Brain Centre To Be Dedicated To Nation

The Sudha Gopalakrishnan Brain Centre (SGBC) at IIT Madras will be dedicated to the nation by the Prime Minister.

He will also launch a global scientific mission to map more than 100 human brains into three-dimensional atlases at cellular resolution, covering different stages of life from the foetal period to old age.

The Prime Minister will release C-STROKE, a human ischaemic stroke atlas featuring more than 1,000 annotated microscopic sections from a stroke-affected brain. The atlas is expected to help researchers worldwide identify new therapeutic targets.

PM Modi To Attend Golden Jubilee Celebrations Of Chennai School

The Prime Minister will participate in the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Jaigopal Garodia Hindu Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Chennai.

The occasion marks 50 years of the institution’s contribution to education and its role in nurturing generations of students through academic excellence, discipline, cultural values and holistic learning.

Guided by its motto, “Sa Vidya Ya Vimuktaye” (Knowledge that liberates), the school aims to nurture individuals who make meaningful contributions to society.
