What is the social need of family in this world? Families are formed, expand and disintegrate, disappear. Families aren’t forever. The child needs both parents. Without them he cannot grow properly. That’s why a family was formed. Brothers and sisters are also family. Common business also connects families. People work together. But some natural changes occur with time. For example, two brothers grew up in the same house and both are fond of each other. Then both of them get married and have children. Children move to different cities. Children grow up. They also get married and have children. So these children become distant relatives among themselves. The family which was once very close, ends and disintegrates within at most four generations. No one has any information about anyone. And it is not that they are left alone. There they too are forming small families. They start again with the same unit. The story of the family is not more than three-four generations. Then new families are formed and they last for three-four generations. Then a new family is formed and new children arrive. Family is a need that ends very quickly. This need goes away with time. Because gradually those children become strangers to each other. With changing times, the era of traditional joint families has been left behind. In today’s time, if children remain separate and independent from their parents, it is not a breakdown of family relationships, but a natural reality of modern life. In today’s busy life, family members have to fix time in advance to meet each other. Like I have to fix time 3 to 5 days in advance to meet Farhan. Earlier in America or England, the practice of calling relatives before meeting them was considered strange, but what used to surprise people has now become a common part of life. Family is not just the name of those people with whom we are related by blood. Family is a place where a person should not only be loved because he is his own, but also respected because he is a separate individual – with his own thoughts, will and freedom. Therefore, there should be loving communication in the family, there should be scope for disagreement and there should be patience to listen to each other. In a good family, children should be taught honesty, self-reliance and rationality. It is natural for children to take their own decisions and live independently; What is unnatural is that their every thought, every step and every decision should be controlled unnecessarily. Children are ours, but they are not our property. After a certain age they have the right to take decisions, make mistakes and create their own world. The job of parents is not to control their path at every step, but to give them enough understanding that they can differentiate between right and wrong on the path. Genealogy can give you a legacy – name, language, traditions, stories and some values, but it cannot determine your identity. If the son merely repeats his father’s voice, it is not an inheritance but an echo. After all, the biggest success of a family is how good people the children of that family become. The purpose of a family is not just to keep its people as its own; The aim of the family is to create such people who can respect humanity also. (Editing and coordination- Arvind Mandloi)
