PM Modi congratulated Mirabai Chanu for winning gold and Rishikanta Singh Chanambam for silver at Commonwealth Games 2026.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday congratulated Indian weightlifters Mirabai Chanu and Rishikanta Singh Chanambam after they won gold and silver medals, respectively, at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow.
Mirabai Chanu won the gold medal in the women’s 48kg weightlifting event after lifting a combined 168kg (74kg in snatch and 94kg in clean and jerk). The victory marked her second consecutive Commonwealth Games gold, her fourth CWG medal overall, and India’s first gold medal at the Commonwealth Games 2026.
Congratulating Chanu in a post on X, PM Modi wrote, “Another glorious chapter in Indian Weightlifting!”
“The talented Mirabai Chanu once again showcased her skills at the Commonwealth Games with a stunning performance in the 48 kg category and winning Gold. With back-to-back Commonwealth Games Golds and an overall fourth CWG medal to her name, she remains an inspiration for every Indian. Congratulations to her! Best wishes for the endeavours ahead,” he said.

Meanwhile, Rishikanta Singh Chanambam bagged the silver medal in the men’s weightlifting event, while also registering a personal-best performance at the Games.
Praising the lifter, PM Modi wrote, “Very proud of Indian lifter Rishikanta Singh Chanambam for winning a Silver Medal and also achieving his personal best. His determination and outstanding performance have brought immense joy to the nation. May he continue to scale greater heights and inspire many young athletes. Best wishes for his future endeavours!”

Both athletes added to India’s medal tally at the Commonwealth Games 2026, with Mirabai extending her dominance in the sport and Rishikanta delivering one of the finest performances of his career.
