US-Iran War Live Updates: Vance Calls Economic Pressure ‘Effective Tool’; Iran Slams Sanctions

US Iran War News Live Updates: The Iran-US conflict remains locked in a tense standoff, with Washington turning to economic pressure as efforts to resolve the crisis over the Strait of Hormuz show little progress. US Vice President JD Vance said economic pressure remains Washington’s “most effective tool” against Tehran, but warned that the strategy is a “delicate dance” because Iran could retaliate economically.

On Wednesday, US President Donald Trump had announced what he called the “most crushing economic operation” against Iran, targeting oil smuggling networks, financial transfers, exchange houses, ship registries and front companies.

Iran has rejected the measures as “economic terrorism” and said sanctions are another form of war and military aggression.

The latest escalation comes after the collapse of a 60-day framework aimed at addressing the conflict and reopening the Strait of Hormuz. Iran says the waterway will remain closed until Washington lifts its blockade, removes oil sanctions and meets other conditions.

The standoff is already affecting global energy markets. Shipping through Hormuz remains at very low levels, while oil prices rose sharply after Trump’s latest threats. For now, both sides remain far apart, with Washington betting on economic pressure and Tehran refusing to give up its position on Hormuz.
