US-Iran War News LIVE Updates: The US military on Wednesday said it intercepted multiple missiles launched by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in an “attempted surprise attack”, ending a days-long pause in hostilities between the two sides.
The military, however, did not specify the locations targeted in the attack. Iran’s response to the US claim is awaited. The development came after both sides held fire over the weekend following nearly two weeks of intense fighting.
The latest escalation coincided with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s first face-to-face meeting with US President Donald Trump since the two countries launched their war against Iran on February 28. The White House described their 90-minute talks as “positive and productive”.
Netanyahu later called it “one of the best conversations I’ve ever had” with Trump, saying both leaders remained committed to preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
The talks also came amid fresh regional tensions, with Iran-backed Houthi rebels claiming they targeted a Saudi oil tanker in the Red Sea. Saudi Arabia has not confirmed the claim but said it intercepted drones targeting oil facilities in the kingdom’s east, blaming Iran-backed militias in Iraq.
