Iran’s Foreign Ministry on Saturday condemned a Ukrainian attack on an Iranian commercial vessel in the Caspian Sea, saying the incident caused an explosion that killed one sailor and injured another.
Iran described the attack as an act of aggression and accused Kyiv of attempting to expand the war beyond Ukraine. Tehran said it would take steps to protect its national interests and security.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry summoned Ukraine’s chargé d’affaires in Tehran to lodge a protest over what it called a “hostile and criminal” attack, Iran’s state news agency IRNA reported.
During the war in Ukraine, Kyiv has been fighting Iranian-designed drones deployed by Russia. Ukraine has also offered its expertise in intercepting drones to Middle Eastern countries that have come under attack from Iran.
