After this, Abhijeet Deepke wrote on social media, ‘What will happen if the youth who are being called cockroaches unite?’ Within a few days, Deepke formed the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP). He has 21 million followers on Instagram. Making NEET paper leak an issue, CJP announced to take to the streets. CJI’s comments, anger over NEET paper leak and the satirical campaign started on social media created such a movement that within 70 days of the formation of the party, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had to resign. The word cockroach became the identity of the movement. The movement reached Jantar Mantar. This is the first movement of its kind in the country. But apart from Deepke, Saurav Das, Ashutosh Ranka and Sonam Wangchuk played an important role in converting this movement into a revolution. Deepke: For the first time, the grassroots machinery of the movement was set up with digital support. Wangchuk: Education reformer Sonam Wangchuk became the ‘moral commander’ of the movement by giving right direction to the dispersed crowd. Before June 6, the crowd was divided into different groups. As soon as Wangchuk arrived, people gathered in front of the stage and the movement took center stage. His fast from June 28 became the permanent platform of the movement. This gave a symbol to the passing crowd. Saurav: Acted as a link between the protesting students, the government and the media. Investigative journalist Saurav Das acted as the chief spokesperson. They became the information control room of the movement. He clarified the date of demonstration, demands, participation and line of communication with the government. Communicated with supporters from different states. Responded to violence, police injuries and rumors spread in the movement. Ranka: Handled the agenda, did not let political parties dominate the movement. Ashutosh Ranka, an IIT student, handled the agenda. Ranka’s role was also to keep the demands clear. The movement remained focused on the demands of resignation of the Education Minister, compensation to the families of students who committed suicide and no case. He did not allow political parties to dominate the movement. Tech revolution too: Formed a team from Google form, communicated without internet through Bitchat. CJP formed the team by collecting names and other details of students from the website and Google form. Hashtags, videos, and posts on Instagram and X delivered instant access to events, locations, and directions. According to the report, call and area wise WhatsApp groups were formed.
