The principal of a primary school in Aligarh was caught on camera sleeping in the classroom while her students waved handheld fans around her. The video of the incident has gone viral, creating an uproar, and the teacher, Dimple Bansal, has been suspended.
The video shows the teacher of a primary school in Gokulpur in the Dhanipur region of Aligarh sleeping comfortably on a mat on the floor of a classroom. Meanwhile, a girl stood beside her and waved a handheld fan. Later, another girl also does the same, while others sit beside the teacher.
After the video sparked outrage, including from the students’ parents, Basic Education Officer Rakesh Kumar Singh stated that the matter would be investigated, and strict action would be taken.
Meanwhile, another video of the same teacher beating students also emerged. A probe by the Block Education Officer confirmed that the sleeping video and the footage of children being beaten show the same teacher, but the latter was an older one.
A probe team will be formed to investigate the matter, the officials said.
