Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK chief MK Stalin on Saturday launched a fresh salvo at Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay, accusing the government of functioning as a “xerox copy” of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Stalin claimed the Chief Minister was on a “shopping spree of AIADMK MLAs”, describing it as an attempt to weaken the opposition.

Addressing the DMK’s women’s wing meeting at Anna Arivalayam, the former Chief Minister accused CM Vijay of replicating the BJP’s political model in states where ruling parties fetched MLAs from the opposition.

“TVK leader Vijay is on a shopping spree of AIADMK MLAs. He doesn’t have trust in his own party cadres. Vijay is doing the same thing here that the BJP does in other states. Vijay’s TVK is a xerox copy of the BJP. Even before the ink mark in their hands vanished, these MLAs resigned and joined TVK… I ask Vijay, did you go to Delhi just to escape from the Karur CBI inquiry…” Stalin said.

The statement comes as the TVK — led by Chief Minister and actor-turned-politician — faces the allegation of encouraging the AIADMK MLAs to join its cadre.

The recent defection of a large number of leaders from AIADMK to the TVK has fueled the allegations, leaving many wondering if Vijay’s party is seeking to build its organisational strength by engineering defection.

‘TVK Cadres Indulging In Sexual Crimes’

MK Stalin — who faced a bruising defeat in the recently-concluded Tamil Nadu Assembly Election — accused the TVK cadres of indulging in sexual crimes against  women and girl children.

Referring to the sexual abuse complaint from Srivaikuntam, he said, “… Now voters of Tamil Nadu who voted for TVK are feeling why we have voted for them. In this government, crimes have increased. In every news channel, we can see news about serious crimes. In recent news, a ruling party cadre himself in Srivaikundam have indulged in sexual harassment”.

Udhayanidhi Attacks Vijay

DMK leader and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Tamil Nadu Assembly Udhayanidhi Stalin targeted CM Vijay, accusing him of taking credit for achievements made during the previous DMK-led government at the NITI Aayog meeting.

“The Chief Minister spoke about how Tamil Nadu stands as the second largest economy in India, and that 42 per cent of all working women in India are from Tamil Nadu, and highlighted progress in women’s education, safety, healthcare, and the growth of women’s Self-Help Groups”, Stalin wrote in a post on ‘X’.

“The Chief Minister must clarify whether all of these were achieved during his one-month-old Sofa Model governance, or were they achieved during the 5-year Dravidian Model governance?” he asked.

Chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, Tamil Nadu CM Vijay had attended the 11th Governing Council meeting of NITI Aayog, where he presented the state’s development achievements and future ambitions.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister had urged exemption from NEET for Tamil Nadu students and requested the release of Rs 3,284 crore under the Samagra Shiksha Scheme.
