Shiv Sena Operation Tiger, Maharashtra Politics Live Updates: Maharashtra’s political landscape has been thrown into fresh turmoil amid speculation that a section of Shiv Sena (UBT) MPs could break away from the party, triggering a fierce war of words, allegations of poaching, and legal manoeuvring by the Uddhav Thackeray camp.
The controversy escalated after Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut alleged that MPs from Maharashtra were being offered huge sums of money to switch loyalties. In a post on X, Raut claimed that an “advance” of Rs 15 crore was being offered to buy MPs. He later doubled down on the allegation, saying the “Minimum Support Price” for an MP had been fixed at Rs 50 crore and that Rs 15 crore was merely an advance payment.
His remarks came in response to a sarcastic exchange with Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra, who also mocked the alleged inducements being offered to legislators.
‘OPERATION TIGER’ SPECULATION GROWS
The allegations coincide with growing buzz around ‘Operation Tiger’, with reports suggesting that as many as seven of Shiv Sena (UBT)’s nine Lok Sabha MPs are in touch with the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and could switch camps.
The speculation intensified after several MPs skipped or attended party meetings virtually, while some were seen meeting leaders from the ruling faction. Shiv Sena MLC Krupal Tumane further fuelled the rumours by claiming discussions with seven UBT MPs were in the final stages.
THACKERAY CAMP MOVES SPEAKER
In a significant pre-emptive step, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader in the Lok Sabha, Arvind Sawant, wrote to Speaker Om Birla seeking intervention against any attempt to form a separate group or claim recognition in Parliament. Sawant argued that the anti-defection law does not recognise legislative splits and warned that any breakaway move without a merger of the parent party could attract disqualification. The Thackeray camp has insisted that all nine MPs remain loyal to Uddhav Thackeray and has dismissed reports of a rebellion.
SHINDE CAMP KEEPS DOORS OPEN
Meanwhile, leaders from the ruling Shiv Sena have kept the political temperature high. State minister Pratap Sarnaik publicly said the party’s doors remain open for MPs and MLAs who believe in Bal Thackeray’s ideology and are willing to trust Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s leadership. The remarks have been viewed as an open invitation to any potential dissidents, ensuring that Maharashtra’s political drama remains far from over.
