Turkish Grand Prix All Set To Return As Formula 1 Agrees Five-Year Deal From 2027

Formula 1 will return to Turkey’s Istanbul Park from 2027 under a five‑year deal, reviving one of the sport’s most challenging circuits.

The Turkish Grand Prix, which was last staged in 2021, is all set to make a return to the Formula 1 calendar, with a five-year deal agreed that will run from 2027 to 2031. The Turkish Automobile Sports Federation will serve as Formula 1’s delivery partner for future events.

The Turkish GP was last held in 2020 and 2021, with Lewis Hamilton clinching his seventh Drivers’ Championship at the venue in 2020, matching the record set by Michael Schumacher.

Istanbul Park joined the F1 calendar in 2005 and gained a reputation as one of its most demanding circuits. The 5.33-km layout features dramatic elevation changes that test both driver skill and car performance.

The iconic Turn 8 at Istanbul Park is a formidable multi-apex challenge, testing a driver’s precision and commitment as they strive to maintain speed and balance through its long, sweeping left-hander.

The most recent winner at Istanbul Park was Valtteri Bottas in 2021 with Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula 1 Team. Alongside Hamilton, he remains one of only two current drivers to have won the Turkish GP.

Turkey has hosted nine GPs and remains a venue cherished by teams, drivers and fans alike, with Istanbul Park known for producing competitive racing across the field.

Former Brazilian driver Felipe Massa holds the record for most victories at the circuit, claiming three successive wins between 2006 and 2008 with Scuderia Ferrari. Other winners at the track include Kimi Räikkönen, Sebastian Vettel and Jenson Button.

F1 continues to grow in Turkey, with the sport boasting more than 19 million fans and over 7.5 million social media followers. Its Instagram audience has risen by 25% year-on-year, while YouTube views have surged by 107%.

“F1 ranks among the world’s foremost sporting events, distinguished by its spectacle, its young fan base and its leadership in automotive technologies. In our country, too, F1 enjoys a broad following across all age groups, especially among our youth, with a truly passionate fan base,” president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said.
