RBI Cancels Banking Licence Of Paytm Payments Bank Ltd; Details Here

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on April 24 cancelled the banking licence of Paytm Payments Bank Ltd (PPBL), with immediate effect, according to an official statement.

“The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has, vide order dated April 24, 2026, cancelled the banking licence issued to Paytm Payments Bank Limited under Section 22(4) of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949 (‘BR Act’) effective from close of business on April 24, 2026,” the RBI said in the statement.

Business has been done in manner harmful to depositors’ interest, the central bank said.

On April 24, Paytm shares closed 0.5% lower at Rs 1,153 apiece.

Shares of One97 Communications, the parent of Paytm, on Friday fell 0.5 per cent to close at Rs 1,153 apiece on the NSE.
