US President Donald Trump on Friday said a potential peace deal between Russia and Ukraine would include territorial exchanges, as he confirmed that face-to-face talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin are scheduled for August 15 in Alaska.
“But we’re gonna get some (territory) back. We’re gonna get some switched. There’ll be some swapping of territories, to the betterment of both,” Trump said, without offering further details on which regions could be affected.
Trump said that he planned to meet the Russian president next Friday in Alaska in a Truth Social post.
“The highly anticipated meeting between myself, as President of the United States of America, and President Vladimir Putin, of Russia, will take place next Friday, August 15, 2025, in the Great State of Alaska. Further details to follow. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
Notably, the Kremlin consistently rejected the proposal to meet Trump alongside Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. On Thursday, it reportedly said a US–Russia summit would take place only if Zelenskyy were not present.
