In a major move to enhance academic discipline and monitor daily attendance, the Himachal Pradesh government will introduce a mandatory three-time attendance system across 150 state-run schools affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced the decision during an Education Department review meeting in Shimla. Under the new operational mandate, attendance will be recorded at three distinct stages during the school day: morning arrival, lunch break, and final departure.

Three-Tier Roll Call and Mandatory Dress Codes

Alongside the attendance overhaul, the Chief Minister announced distinct dress codes for teachers and students across the 150 targeted CBSE government institutions:

• Mandatory Teacher Attire: A prescribed dress code for teachers will take effect on October 1, 2026. To support compliance, the state government will provide a one-time financial grant of Rs 5,000 to each teacher to purchase the attire.
• Student Uniform Finalisation: Guidelines for student uniforms in these specific institutions will be finalised following further state consultations.

Rs 80 Crore Infrastructure Boost for Rural Schools

The state government has allocated an additional Rs 80 crore to upgrade infrastructure, teaching tools, and classroom facilities across these 150 CBSE-affiliated schools.

To support the transition to the CBSE curriculum, around 1,200 specialised teachers have already been recruited, with additional staff appointments scheduled in upcoming hiring drives.

Chief Minister Sukhu emphasised that the core objective of the initiative is to bridge the urban-rural educational divide, ensuring children living in remote areas gain access to quality, disciplined, and modern education right at their doorsteps.
