The investigation into the unauthorised entry case involving Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) leaders Ashutosh Ranka and Sourav Das has been transferred to the Delhi Police Crime Branch, according to police sources.
The Crime Branch will now take over the probe into the case, sources said.
The CJP leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka have been extended till October 21 by a Delhi court on Monday.
The two CJP leaders, who are lodged in Tihar Jail, were sent to five-day judicial custody on October 14 for allegedly violating their peace bonds and trespassing into Jantar Mantar, which was designated as a protest area.
The Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) court held Ashutosh Ranka and Sourav Das responsible for deliberately violating the peace bonds they signed on October 11, 2026. The court observed that both had breached the peace despite giving undertakings before the magistrate.
Expressing concern over repeated calls for protests at de-notified sites, including Jantar Mantar and Connaught Place, the court said the respondents’ conduct raised apprehensions of further breaches of peace and disturbances to public tranquillity.
The court rejected their assurances that they would not repeat the alleged offence, citing their past conduct as grounds for concern. It directed both Ranka and Das to submit their written statements within two days.
The court also rejected the fresh sureties after finding discrepancies in their identity documents and noting that the individuals standing as sureties could not provide basic details about the respondents. Both Ranka and Das were directed to furnish fresh sureties.
The matter will be heard next on October 21 at 2 pm.
Ranka and Das were detained early Tuesday after allegedly crossing barricades and entering the Jantar Mantar area without authorisation while raising slogans demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Police registered a case against the CJP activists on charges including trespassing, violating prohibitory orders, breaching a peace bond and obstructing a public servant from discharging official duties, according to sources.
The two had signed bonds undertaking to maintain peace for one year after being detained during a protest on Saturday, sources said.
The action comes amid heightened security in the national capital following protests by the CJP and other organisations against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
