The inspiring life of Kerala’s Latheesha Ansari, who didn’t give up on her dreams of becoming an IAS officer despite battling a rare disease.

Many students preparing for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exams in India have inspiring stories to share. But Kerala’s IAS aspirant Latheesha Ansari took the level of determination and courage to another level. The woman gave her UPSC examinations while surviving on an oxygen cylinder.
Born with a rare bone disease and pulmonary hypertension that stopped her body growth, Latheesha couldn’t even walk, but she never gave up on her dream of becoming an IAS officer. The brave woman’s father took extensive care of her and made sure she was carried to school and college.

Determined to make her father proud, Latheesha went on to attain top marks in her studies and held dreams of cracking the incredibly tough UPSC examination. Just then, however, life gave her another raw deal. Latheesha suffered a bout of extensive sickness, which affected her lungs and left her needing constant oxygen support for breathing.
Anyone else in her condition would’ve given up on their ambitions. But Latheesha was a brave woman. She persisted with her IAS studies, wanting to become a civil servant who would help people after passing her exams.
In 2019, Latheesha went on to give the UPSC examinations with her family carrying her over to the exam centre with her oxygen cylinder. The girl didn’t care how her presence in the examination hall would appear to others, entirely focusing on her paper. She answered the tough questions while the oxygen machine worked beside her.
Latheesha Ansari’s Inspiring Life
Taking her unbeatable spirit to the exams, Latheesha strongly fought for her dream and proved that it’s not your limitations but your perseverance that decides your path. Soon after giving her exams, Latheesha had to be hospitalised. During her treatment, she spoke to her father and asked for a wish. “I have never been able to stand. Please, help me stand up,” said Latheesha as revealed by her father in an interview to Money Control.
The special child’s father held her hands, helping her stand for two hours straight. Unfortunately, it was her final victory against life as she died on June 16, 2021, at the age of 27. In her short but inspiring life, Latheesha left a powerful message behind: never ever give up.
