Tenants wanted her house, killed her; couple arrested in DU professor’s murder

The police have arrested a married couple in connection with the murder of a Delhi University (DU) professor who was found dead inside her flat in Delhi earlier this week, sources said. The man and the woman were taken into custody from West Bengal’s Burdwan and were being brought to Delhi at the time of writing this report.

The duo allegedly killed 42-year-old Devosmita Paul over a property dispute, per the sources. The investigation, so far, has revealed that the accused were living as tenants at a house owned by the college professor in Burdwan and wanted to purchase it.

Paul, however, was not willing to sell the property. According to the police, the couple then hatched a conspiracy and visited the woman’s residence under the pretext of paying their rent.

The accused couple had also brought their child to Delhi in order to evade suspicion, the sources said. At Paul’s flat, they again asked her to sell them the property in Burdwan.

However, after she refused once again, they allegedly killed her. After the murder, they locked the flat from the outside and fled the scene, per the sources.
