Vijay announced an allocation of ₹354 crore for the implementation of the Singapen programme, describing it as a comprehensive effort that goes beyond policing and law enforcement.
Recalling commitments made during the election campaign, Vijay said ensuring the safety of women in every household was a core objective of his administration.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Tuesday launched the “Singapen Special Force”, a dedicated women’s safety unit, fulfilling a key promise made by his government after coming to power.
Launching the initiative, Vijay said women’s safety would remain one of the government’s highest priorities, stressing that no woman should have to live in fear.
“Women should not live in fear. They need to feel safe,” the Chief Minister said.

“When we look at women’s safety, it is not just a law-and-order issue. It is an issue related to society as a whole,” he said.
The Chief Minister noted that the government had decided to establish the task force immediately after assuming office and had worked towards creating a dedicated mechanism to tackle crimes against women.
Drug Menace Linked To Rising Crimes Against Women
Expressing concern over incidents of violence against women, Vijay said the government had examined the factors behind the rise in such crimes and found a strong link with the growing drug menace.
“There are incidents of crimes against women. It is unfortunate. They are also our family. When we were wondering why such incidents are increasing, we realised it is because of the drug menace. This has been going on for years. There is no point in blaming previous governments. We have to tackle this,” he said.
‘Maximum Punishment’ For Offenders
The Chief Minister warned that those found guilty of crimes against women would face the strictest action under the law.
“Whoever is responsible for crimes against women, maximum punishment will be given to them,” Vijay said.
He added that the government’s overall performance would be judged by how effectively it protects women and children.
“The government’s complete success depends on the safety of women and children. This will be our priority,” he said.
‘Not Just An Election Promise’
Recalling commitments made during the election campaign, Vijay said ensuring the safety of women in every household was a core objective of his administration.
“We promised to ensure that our grandmothers, mothers, sisters and children in every household are safe. This was not just an election pitch. We want to ensure our women are safe,” he said.
Calling the launch a deeply personal milestone, Vijay added that only a few government initiatives hold special significance, and the Singapen Task Force was one of them.
