The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Examination is considered one of the toughest exams in the country. Every year, millions of candidates prepare for this exam, but only a few succeed. The key to passing this exam is strong determination and consistent hard work. An inspiring example is that of Laghima Tiwari, a resident of Alwar, Rajasthan, who achieved All India Rank 19 in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2022 on her first attempt without any coaching.
Tiwari is a graduate of Delhi Technological University in Electronics and Communication Engineering. She has demonstrated that with the right strategy and hard work, even a challenging exam like the UPSC can be passed without coaching.
After completing her engineering studies in 2021, she dedicated herself entirely to preparing for the UPSC Civil Services Exam. She worked diligently for almost a year and established a clear strategy for her studies. This hard work and discipline led to her success on the first attempt.
Tiwari mentioned in an interview that during her preparation, she watched interviews of several UPSC toppers on YouTube, reported News18 Hindi. These interviews provided her with insights into the right direction and strategy for preparation. She learned from these lessons to prepare for her static subjects, general studies, and current affairs.
Laghima Tiwari did not enrol in any coaching institutes for her exam preparation. She focused on self-study and test series as her primary tools. Regular practice and mock tests strengthened her preparation, proving to be her key strategy for success.
She believes that consistency is crucial when preparing for the UPSC exam. She advises candidates to study consistently, even if they spend less time each day. Tiwari added that regular study and frequent revision improve understanding of the subjects and lead to good exam results.
She also advised candidates not to waste time after taking the prelims exam and suggested that they should immediately begin preparing for the mains exam after the prelims, as the mains require more in-depth study.
She chose Anthropology as her optional subject for the UPSC Mains exam. Although her background was in biology, having studied it from grades 9 to 12, she prepared well and performed exceptionally in the subject, proving that success can be achieved even with a different major.
Laghima Tiwari credits her parents and family for her success. She explained that she is the first member of her family to join the civil service.
