Sensex Today: The GIFT Nifty pointed to a weak start for the benchmark Nifty50 index as crude oil prices rebounded after Iran accused the US of breaching the ceasefire agreement. Futures were quoted at 23,998, down 60 points.

Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said distrust toward the US runs deep because of what he described as Washington’s repeated violations of agreements. In a social media statement, he cited Israel’s continued attacks on Lebanon and drones entering Iranian airspace as examples of such breaches.

Global Cues

Markets across the Asia-Pacific region traded lower early Thursday as concerns over renewed US-Iran tensions resurfaced. Japan’s Nikkei 225 slipped 0.48%, while South Korea’s Kospi declined 1.28%.

Overnight on Wall Street, US equities closed sharply higher. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 2.85%, the S&P 500 advanced 2.51%, and the Nasdaq Composite climbed 2.80%.

In commodities, Brent crude’s April contract rose 2.9% to $97.50 per barrel.

Meanwhile, gold and silver futures traded lower, down 0.66% and 2.02%, respectively.
