Struggling airline SpiceJet has received a GST demand of Rs 124.65 crore for non-filing of GST returns for several months, according to officials, news agency PTI reported on Friday.

The GST department has also issued a show-cause notice proposing cancellation of the airline’s GST registration for failing to file returns on time, an official said, according to PTI.

According to the GST department, SpiceJet consistently committed irregularities in filing GST returns and submitted them late. As a result, a provisional assessment was carried out under Section 62 of the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) Act and State Goods and Services Tax (SGST) Act, 2017.

Based on the assessment, the department has raised a total tax demand of Rs 124.65 crore for multiple tax periods.

As per details released by the GST department, the demand includes Rs 44.44 crore for November, Rs 43.79 crore for December, Rs 12.19 crore for January, Rs 12.10 crore for February and Rs 12.12 crore for March.

GST officials told PTI that a show-cause notice for cancellation of the company’s GST registration was issued on May 25, 2026. However, the airline is yet to file its pending GST returns.

“If SpiceJet does not promptly file its pending returns and ensure compliance with its statutory obligations under the GST law, further action will be taken as per the rules,” an official said.

Despite several attempts, officials of SpiceJet could not be contacted, PTI reported.
