CD Tenerife’s Spanish footballer Jesús de Miguel died at the age of 30 after colliding with the opposition goalkeeper during a second-division match against FC Andorra.

The match was abandoned at 2-2 in added time after De Miguel, playing centre-forward, collided with Jesus Owono while competing for a long ball near the halfway line. Hit on the chest, De Miguel fell on the pitch and appeared to not move for a while as medical staff from both teams rushed to him, amid shocked faces of his teammates.

He had suffered a cardiac arrest. Medical staff attended to the player on the pitch for over five minutes before he was rushed to hospital in an ambulance, where his condition worsened.

“Racked with pain, with a lump in our throats and unable to believe that this is true, from CD Tenerife we communicate the tragic passing, this Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at 8:00 a.m., of Jesús de Miguel Alameda,” Tenerife said in a statement. “There are no words of comfort; there is absolutely nothing that can alleviate this feeling overflowing with sadness. We stand alongside his devastated family, alongside his loved ones, alongside all of tinerfeñismo that today weeps for this cruel outcome. The family of Jesús de Miguel thanks each and every one of the expressions of support received, and likewise requests, from the heart, the utmost respect for their privacy in these terrible moments.”

De Miguel began his career with Leganés B in 2015 and has since represented eight other Spanish clubs, including Tenerife, whom he joined last year.
