There is a decline in the Indian stock market on the first trading day of the week i.e. Monday 12th January. Sensex is trading 300 points down at 83,300 level. Nifty is also down by 100 points. It is trading at the level of 25,600.
In today’s business, realty, media and auto stocks are showing the biggest decline. Nifty media index is trading down 1.43%. Out of 30 Sensex stocks, 25 are declining and 5 are rising.
Global market boom
- In Asian markets, Korea’s Kospi is trading up 1.03% at 4,633, Japan’s Nikkei index closed today.
- Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index traded up 0.68% at 26,410 and China’s Shanghai Composite index was up 0.75% at 4,151.
- On January 9, America’s Dow Jones closed at 49,504, up 0.48%. At the same time, Nasdaq Composite rose 0.81%. The S&P 500 was up 0.65%.
Second day of Bharat Coking Coal IPO
Today is the second day of applying for IPO of ‘Bharat Coking Coal’ (BCCL) in the mainline segment. The company has fixed its price band at ₹21 to ₹23 per share. Investors can bid for a minimum lot of 600 shares, entailing an investment of ₹13,800 at the upper end. This issue will remain open till January 13.

Foreign investors sold shares worth ₹3,769 crore
- On January 8, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold shares worth ₹3,769 crore.
- During this period, domestic institutional investors (DIIs) bought shares worth ₹ 5,595 crore.
- FIIs sold shares worth a total of ₹34,350 crore in December 2025. During this period, DIIs controlling the market bought shares worth ₹ 79,620 crore.
- FIIs sold shares worth a total of ₹17,500 crore in the month of November. Whereas, DIIs made purchases worth ₹77,084 crore. That is, the market is supported by domestic investors.
The market was falling on Friday
There was a decline in the Indian stock market on the last trading day of the week i.e. Friday 9 January. The Sensex closed at 83,5576, down 605 points or 0.72%. Nifty also declined by 193 points (0.75%). It closed at the level of 25,683.
