A total of 11 people have been rescued from the debris so far after a five-storey building collapsed in Delhi’s Seemapuri on Wednesday, a month after the deadly building collapse in Satya Niketan.

Of them, eight injured people have been rescued and shifted to Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital, Tahirpur, for further medical treatment. They have been identified as Momin Mirja, 56; Abdaan, 3; Abdul Rehman, 28; Devruddin, 28; Salma, 50; Chote, 34; Sakina, 35; and Samad, 30.

Three people have died in the incident, including one child. The deceased include a 12-year-old girl whose identity is yet to be ascertained, Gulafsa, 21, who was approximately four months pregnant, and another child whose identity and details are yet to be ascertained.

Rescue and relief operations are continuing at the spot, while further details are being ascertained.

“Information was received regarding the collapse of a four-storey building bearing No. E-401, E-Block, New Seemapuri, Delhi. The building, constructed on a plot of approximately 25 sq. yards, collapsed and partially damaged two adjoining buildings. 7 injured persons, including one child aged about 3 years, have been rescued from the affected area. Rescue and relief operations are ongoing,” said Delhi Police.

Building is about 20-25 years old and occupied.

Emergency rescue teams, including the Delhi Fire Service, Delhi Police, MCD and DDMA reached at the site within 15-20 mins and immediately initiated search and rescue operations. NDRF team has also reached later on.

In addition to this building walls of adjoining building has fallen/damaged, and the boundary wall of the nearby mosque has also collapsed due to the impact of the incident.

As per local enquiry, Rohngia/Bangladeshi families (ragpickers) are living in this area and they were collecting plastic, etc. and they caught by building material during collapse of building. Additionally, as per the statements of the neighbors, the building developed cracks due to the earthquake last night, and the owner was vacating the building.

The collapse in northeast Delhi’s Seemapuri area also buried portions of two to three adjoining houses under the debris. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Rajendra Prasad Meena said some people had been rescued and taken to hospitals, while two to three others were suspected to remain trapped.

Several people are feared trapped under the debris, according to initial reports. Ambulances have rushed the injured to Rajiv Gandhi Hospital. The building is located near Idgah Masjid in Seemapuri.

The Joint Commissioner of Police, Eastern Range, said there were no deaths reported so far in the Seemapuri building collapse.

The Delhi Traffic Police post on X reads, “A multi story building has collapsed in Seemapuri and rescue teams are working at the site. Traffic is affected around Seemapuri Gol Chakkar, DLF Bhopura and adjoining roads. Every clear lane gives an ambulance and rescue vehicle a faster way through. Please avoid the area if possible. Do not stop, park or gather near the site, and follow the directions of traffic personnel. “

The Delhi Fire Service (DFS) received a call regarding the collapse at 3.30 pm and rushed fire tenders to the spot. Some people might be trapped in the debris, an officer told PTI.

Rescue operations are underway.
