Canada claimed a point from their historic home debut at the FIFA World Cup 2026, holding Bosnia and Herzegovina to a 1-1 draw at Toronto Stadium in Ontario on Saturday. Jovo Lukic put Bosnia ahead in the first half, but Cyle Larin struck in the 78th minute to earn Canada a share of the spoils in their World Cup opener.

The World Cup reached the Great White North for the first time, with Canada marking the occasion with a dazzling opening ceremony before facing Bosnia, who had qualified at the expense of four-time champions Italy, knocking them out in the final play-off to secure their ticket to North America.
Bosnia began with star forward Edin Dzeko among the substitutes, while Canada were missing their talisman Alfonso Davies.
The visitors went in front before the half-hour mark when Lukic forced the ball over the line after it was flicked on at the near post from an excellent corner. Bosnia asserted themselves in the area and were rewarded with the opener.
Canada pushed hard for an equaliser but repeatedly failed to apply the finishing touch to their promising build-up play, allowing Bosnia to take a narrow lead into half-time.
The hosts showed relentless attacking intent after the interval but still could not score, with Saed Kolasinac producing a crucial goal-line clearance early in the second half to deny them.
Canada continued to pour forward with wave after wave of attacks, yet Bosnia’s defence clung to their advantage with determined, resilient play.
Both managers made several substitutions to inject energy, and Canada coach Jesse Marsch saw his decision to introduce Larin pay off when the forward struck in the 78th minute to level the match.
