After the success of ‘Munjya’, along with fame, responsibility has also increased for Abhay Verma. He says that success did not reduce his hunger, but made his dreams bigger. Working with Shahrukh Khan in ‘King’ was like a dream come true for him. In a special conversation with Dainik Bhaskar, Abhay talked about his career, the success of ‘Munjya’, growing up dreams and the lessons he learned from Shahrukh Khan.

Question: After the success of ‘Munjya’, do you feel pressure now?

Answer: I wouldn’t say pressure, but the responsibility has definitely increased. After success, expectations increase and you have to work harder next time. I don’t remember the last time I slept for eight hours. But my dreams don’t let me sleep. I heard a beautiful saying that if you knew you would not fail, how big would you dream? So now I have not put any limit on my dreams. Rest will come later. Right now I want to increase the love of my audience.

The success of ‘Munjya’ made Abhay Verma’s dreams bigger.

Question: What gives you the most happiness today?

Answer: People’s love is my greatest happiness. I consider it a disloyalty. The viewers can give this trust whenever they want and can give more love from their treasure whenever they want. My job is to work so hard that I keep getting this love again and again. The love I have received so far has not reduced my hunger, rather it has increased it further.

Question: How was the experience of working with Shahrukh Khan in ‘King’?

answer: I have started dreaming after seeing Shahrukh sir. People consider him as their hero and dream of becoming like him. For me, he is even ahead of him. I asked him how he used to choose films in the initial days? He said- ‘Work with those people with whom you feel like and who love you.’ Even after 35 years of experience, he has the same energy to learn and teach. He picks up the sandbag on the set and tells that this is your mark, you can see it by speaking such dialogues. When he was not shooting, he would sit on a chair and watch how the cinema was being made. Seeing the passion and enthusiasm within him, I understood why he became Shahrukh Khan.

Question: What was your reaction when you got the call to work with Shahrukh Khan for the first time?

Answer: For me there was no question of two opinions. I said that even if they make me a fly on the wall, I will become a fly, as long as I get a chance to work with them. Even on days when I did not have a shoot, I would reach the set. If my shoot had ended early and their shoot was going on, I would have stayed on the set the whole day.

When the call came, there was also talk of money. I said that for me there is nothing above this. Do whatever you think is right professionally. Working with him was the biggest opportunity for me.

Working with Shahrukh is no less than a dream for Abhay Verma.

Question: How was your first meeting with Shahrukh Khan?

Answer: I met him for the first time in Poland. We sat together for about three hours. Suhana Khan was also there. Had dinner together later. After meeting him, while going to the hotel, I realized that this was the same person from whom I had learned to dream. But while being with him, he does not let us feel at all that he is such a big star.

This is his legendary thing that even after 35 years, he is so simple and remains connected only to his art.

Question: How special was the message of ‘King’ for you?

Answer: I have preserved the screenshot of that message. Sometimes it even becomes my wallpaper. It had been two years since ‘Munjya’ was released and in between there were many thoughts about what would happen next, when the film would be released.

I am more excited about the work than the result. But after success, one feels a beautiful responsibility to work harder next time.
