Gold reserves with the Reserve Bank of India have crossed 880.18 metric tonnes (8,80,180 kg) in the first six months (April-September) of 2025-26. At the end of 2024-25 it was 879.58 metric tons. The total value of gold as of September 26 was $95 billion (Rs 8.4 lakh crore). This information has come out in the latest report of RBI.

The RBI added 0.6 metric tonnes (600 kg) of gold to its stocks in the six months to September. 0.2 metric tons (200 kg) of gold were purchased in September and 0.4 metric tons (400 kg) in June. In 2024-25, RBI had added 54.13 metric tons of gold to its treasury.

Demand and prices increased due to uncertainties around the world

RBI said in its latest bulletin that due to global and geo-political uncertainties the demand for gold increased rapidly. Because, central banks and investors of countries around the world are buying it as a safe asset. Due to increase in demand and purchase, prices also increased in global and domestic markets.

During this period, central banks around the world added 166 tonnes of gold to their official reserves, due to which its demand further increased. Due to which gold prices remained high in the third quarter and reached the highest level ever in September.

This year gold became costlier by ₹ 47,745 and silver by ₹ 66,484

So far this year, the price of gold has increased by Rs 47,745. On December 31, 2024, 10 grams of 24 carat gold was worth Rs 76,162, which has now become Rs 1,23,907.

The price of silver has also increased by Rs 66,484 during this period. On December 31, 2024, the price of one kg silver was Rs 86,017, which has now become Rs 1,52,501 per kg.
