Preparations are in full swing for the vote counting and security has been beefed up outside counting centres. Unlike most Union Territories, Puducherry has an elected legislature and Chief Minister, a unique status granted under a 1963 law following its integration into India after the Treaty of Cession, which formalised the transfer of regions including Karaikal, Mahe, and Yanam.

Exit polls indicate an advantage for the NDA, projecting 16–20 seats, while the Indian National Congress–Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam alliance may secure 6–8. However, some forecasts suggest a closer race, with Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam emerging as a potential wildcard.

Campaigning largely centred on local concerns such as governance, employment, and infrastructure, led by key figures like N Rangasamy and V Vaithilingam.
