The interaction with BJP workers is significant, with Assembly elections scheduled early next year.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi inaugurated the newly constructed terminal of the Lokapriya Gopinath Bardoloi International Airport in Guwahati in the presence of Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, marking a major milestone in the state’s infrastructure growth.
The PM also unveiled a statue of Bharat Ratna Lokapriya Gopinath Bardoloi at the entrance of the new terminal complex. Addressing a large public gathering on the occasion, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma described the event as historic and a moment of pride not only for Assam but for the entire Northeast.
As part of his visit, PM Modi on Sunday will pay homage to the martyrs of the 1979 Assam Movement at the Swahid Smarak Kshetra, built in memory of the 860 people who laid down their lives during the agitation.
Further, the BJP leader will also interact with 25 students from various schools under the ‘Pariksha pe Charcha’ programme during a 30-minute session aboard the cruise vessel ‘Charaideo’ on the Brahmaputra River.
He will then travel to Dibrugarh and onward to Namrup, where he is scheduled to lay the foundation stone of a Rs 12,000-crore ammonia-urea fertiliser plant. The project is expected to give a significant boost to industrial development and employment in the state. The PM will also address a public gathering there before concluding his Assam visit.
