PM Modi Announces Rs 1200 Crore Assistance For Disaster-Hit Uttarakhand

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday made a financial relief package of Rs 1,200 crore available for relief and rehabilitation work in Uttrakhand, which has been hit very badly by a series of monsoon-related tragedies. The announcement was made after a high-level review meeting and an aerial review of the affected areas.

State Seeks Higher Relief Package

Though the Centre has committed a large amount, the Uttarakhand government had originally sought a much bigger relief of ₹5,702 crore from the Centre. This was sought following widespread damage due to heavy rains, cloudbursts, and landslides throughout the districts of the state, such as Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Pauri Garhwal, Chamoli, Bageshwar, and Nainital.
