Pitru Paksha is going on and these days people are turning to holy places to perform Shraddha of their ancestors. Badrinath of Lord Vishnu located in Chamoli, Uttarakhand is also called Moksh Dham. Therefore, devotees come from far and wide to perform Shraddha, Pind Daan and Tarpan of ancestors here at Brahmakapal. On Tuesday, some foreign devotees from Moscow, Russia also came here and performed Shraddha of ancestors at Brahmakapal Tirtha with full devotion.
In this group that came to India from Russia, seven Russian pilgrims performed Pind Daan and Tarpan for their ancestors in Brahmakapal as per the rituals. During this, he prayed for peace and salvation of his ancestors. These pilgrims who reached Badrinath from abroad expressed their faith in the traditions and beliefs of this place by performing religious rituals at Brahmakapal. He said that he is feeling very good after offering Pind Daan to his ancestors in Brahmakapal.
Why is Pind Daan special in Brahmakapal?
Religious rituals are being performed for ancestors at different pilgrimage sites across the country. But Pind Daan has special significance in Brahmakapal situated in Badrinath Dham of Uttarakhand. There is a religious belief that by offering Pind Daan and Tarpan here, the ancestors attain salvation and get freedom from ancestral debt. Badrinath Dham, along with being included in the major Dhams of Lord Vishnu, is also an important center of Sanatan faith as the land of ancestral rites and salvation.
Throughout the year, devotees come to Brahmakapal Tirtha situated on the banks of Alaknanda River to offer Pind Daan and Tarpan for their ancestors. Especially during the 15 days of Pitru Paksha, the flow of devotees from different states of the country to reach Badrinath becomes more intense. It is believed that by offering Pind Daan and Tarpan in Brahmakapal, ancestors attain salvation and the family is freed from ancestral debt.
Brahmakapal’s story
Brahmakapal has also been given special religious recognition in the Puranas. According to belief, Brahmaji had five heads. Lord Shiva cut off the fifth head of Brahmaji. But that head did not separate from Lord Shiva’s trident. When Lord Shiva reached Badarika Ashram after traveling in all the three worlds, Brahma’s fifth head got separated from his trident. This place got special religious recognition as Brahmakapal. It is said that Lord Shiva performed Pind Daan of the fifth head of Brahma here and gave the boon that in Kaliyuga, whichever devotee offers Pind Daan of his ancestors on this holy land, his ancestors will attain salvation.
