Today, from October 1, 2026, 6 rules related to cylinders, banking, digital payments and government schemes are changing. These are explained below in simple language:
1. Commercial cylinder costlier by Rs 70
shift: Oil companies have made commercial gas cylinders costlier by Rs 70.
Effect: Due to increase in the price of commercial cylinders, the expenses of restaurant owners will increase marginally. In such a situation, they can make tea and breakfast expensive. Wedding catering can also be expensive.

2. No verification, no LPG subsidy
shift: It has been made mandatory for customers to complete Biometric Aadhaar Authentication (BAA/e-KYC) to book LPG gas cylinders at subsidized rates from October 1, 2026. There will be no change for those who already have e-KYC.
Effect: Customers who have not done biometric verification will not be able to book gas at the subsidized rate. However, the supply or booking of gas cylinders will not stop. As soon as customers complete their e-KYC, they will again start getting cylinders at subsidized prices.
3. Merchant charge on UPI payment
Badwal: Merchant discount rate will be applicable on select merchant UPI transactions above ₹2,000 from October 15, 2026. For merchants whose total monthly earning from UPI is up to ₹1 lakh, all transactions will be absolutely free, even if the payment is more than ₹2,000.
Effect: It is not expected to have any impact on general customers. On the other hand, if a small merchant takes UPI payment of more than ₹ 1 lakh for 3 consecutive months, then the bank will put him in the list of big merchants and then the charge will be applicable on him too. Person to person transaction is free.

4. Rules for withdrawing money from SBI ATM
shift: If SBI salary account holders use ATM or ADWM machine of any other bank, now they will get only 5 free transactions in a month. Earlier this limit was of 10 free transactions. This includes checking balance and withdrawing money.
Effect: ₹15 + GST will be charged per transaction.
5. Appliances like AC-TV, fridge will become costlier by 8% from today.
shift: From October 1, companies are increasing the prices of AC, LED TV, washing machine and fridge by 3% to 8%. This is the third increase made by the companies in 2026.
The companies have taken this decision due to the rise in the prices of raw materials related to copper, steel, aluminum and crude oil in the international market and currency fluctuations. This will be the third price increase by the consumer electronics industry in the year 2026.
Effect: This will not have a big immediate impact on sales during festivals. Dealers and distributors have 1 to 1.5 months old stock available which was purchased at old rates. Customers will be able to buy electronics goods at old prices only till Diwali.

6. Decision on repo rate
shift: The Monetary Policy Committee of RBI will meet from October 5 to October 7, 2026. In this meeting on October 7, a decision will be taken regarding the repo rate whether it should be changed or it should be kept stable. This time the repo rate can be increased by 0.25%.
present situation: The repo rate stands at 5.25% since the August review.
Effect: If RBI increases the repo rate, banks will increase the interest rates on home loans, car loans and personal loans. This will increase the EMI. Conversely, if rates fall, EMIs may become cheaper.
