The ‘Pink Saheli Smart Card’ introduced for women in Delhi will no longer be limited to free travel on DTC buses. The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) has developed the card as a National Common Mobility Card (NCMC), enabling women not only to avail free bus travel but also to use it like a debit card at malls, shops, Delhi Metro, and Namo Bharat trains.
DIGITAL APPLICATION PROCESS FOR CARD ISSUANCE
Transport Minister Dr. Pankaj Singh said that the Pink Saheli Smart Card with debit card functionality will be issued entirely through a digital process. Women will have to apply through the online portal of DTC’s authorised bank. During the application process, applicants will need to provide an Aadhaar card with a Delhi address, a passport-size photograph, and other required personal information. A PAN card may also be required if necessary. After completing the Video KYC process, the card will be delivered to the applicant’s home.
TWO TYPES OF PINK SAHELI SMART CARDS
DTC is issuing the card in two variants. The first is a Zero KYC Card, which will be issued instantly using Aadhaar and OTP verification and will primarily be used for free bus travel. The second is a Full KYC Card, which will offer banking facilities and can be used like a debit card.
HOW THE CARD WILL WORK
According to the Transport Department, women will have to tap the card on the ticket machine while boarding the bus to receive a free ticket, as before. If a woman wishes to use the card for payments in the Delhi Metro, Namo Bharat trains, or at shops, she will first need to add money to the card through her bank account or UPI.
FREE BUS TRAVEL ONLY WITH VALID CARD FROM AUGUST 1
DTC has also clarified that from August 1, it will be mandatory for women to present the Pink Saheli Smart Card to avail free travel on DTC buses. Women passengers without a valid card will not be eligible for the free travel facility. An awareness campaign is also being conducted in buses and depots regarding the new system.
DIFFERENT COLOURED SMART CARDS FOR DIFFERENT CATEGORIES
DTC has designated different coloured smart cards for various passenger categories. Pink cards are meant for women, blue cards for general passengers, and orange cards for senior citizens and persons with disabilities. However, according to the department, the process of issuing orange cards has not yet begun
