- India’s First Cooperative Taxi Service Bharat Taxi Launches Pilot In Delhi With 51,000 Drivers

The pilot operation of Bharat Taxi, the country’s first cooperative taxi service, has started in Delhi on Tuesday. Car, auto and bike all three services have been started. For this, more than 51,000 drivers have registered on the taxi app.
This service has been started with the support of eight major cooperative institutions. This includes the names of Mool, IFFCO, KRIBHCO, NAFED, NDDB, NCEL, NCDC and NABARD.
The taxi app will be run by Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited, which has been registered under Multi-State Cooperative Society on June 6, 2025.
Due to the zero commission model of the service, the driver will get the entire earning and the profit will also be divided among the drivers.
Trial in Delhi, registration in Gujarat
Sahakar Taxi Chairman Jayen Mehta said that its pilot operation has started in Delhi. Driver registration is going on in Gujarat. Will soon spread across the country. Two driver representatives have also been elected to the board. In March 2025, Home Minister Amit Shah had announced in Parliament that a new cooperative taxi service would be launched to give drivers independence from private companies.

Who will drive Bharat Taxi?
- This is a subscription based model, which will be run by Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited. It was founded in June with an investment of ₹300 crore.
- This app based service is part of Digital India. It will have a governing council, with Amul MD Jayen Mehta as chairman and NCDC deputy managing director Rohit Gupta as vice chairman.
- Apart from this, there are also 8 other members, who are associated with various cooperative societies of the country. The first meeting of this board was held on 16 October.

- Service in Rajkot, Mumbai, Pune from December to March 2026. There will be 5 thousand drivers. Multi State Operation.
- It will start in Lucknow, Bhopal, Jaipur between April to December. There will be 15 thousand drivers and 10 thousand vehicles.
- In 2027-28, pan India service will start being available in 20 cities with 50 thousand drivers. Will link it to Fastag.
- The service will start with one lakh drivers in district headquarters, villages between 2028-2030.
