A fresh FIR has been registered against Former BJP MP Prajwal Revanna after a mobile phone was found during a raid at his cell in Bengaluru’s Parappana Agrahara Central Prison, where he is serving a life sentence following his conviction in a rape case.
An undertrial prisoner, identified as Pratap Rai, who was lodged in the same prison, has also been named in the case.
According to prison authorities, a raid was conducted by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) on Monday afternoon as part of a search for high-profile prisoners.
Besides the phone, a pen drive and charger were among the items recovered from Revanna’s cell.
The search operation lasted around four to five hours. Officials said no other contraband was found during the operation.
Following the recovery, the Assistant Superintendent of the prison has been placed under suspension. A show-cause notice has also been issued to the Superintendent of Bengaluru Central Prison.
Revanna was convicted in August 2025 and sentenced to life imprisonment after being found guilty of repeated sexual assault, voyeurism and destruction of evidence.
The sexual assault cases against Revanna, then a Lok Sabha candidate from Hassan, came to public attention ahead of the 2024 general elections after explicit videos allegedly involving him were circulated.
Revanna had denied the allegations and claimed the videos were morphed.
Between April 28 and June 10, 2024, four FIRs were registered against him, along with two cases at cybercrime police stations in Bengaluru.
A separate case was also registered against his father, HD Revanna.
