Flash Floods in Nepal Today Live Updates: A massive flash flood near the Tibet border in Nepal destroyed settlements, vehicles, and infrastructure on Wednesday, with authorities scrambling to assess the damage and accelerate relief operations for residents, especially those living along riverbanks.
The sudden surge of water from the Tibetan side entered the Bhote Koshi River around 9 AM in Nepal’s Rasuwa district, wreaking havoc in the Timure and Syapru Besi areas, according to officials.
Authorities are still assessing the situation, with the full scale of the damage and any casualties yet to be determined.
Nepal PM Chairs Emergency Meeting
Nepal Prime Minister Balendra Shah, popularly known as Balen Shah, chaired a key emergency meeting of the Council of Ministers to take stock of the situation and assess the damage caused by the flooding. Meanwhile, his government has deployed the Nepal Army, Armed Police Force and Nepal Police to intensify search and rescue operations in the affected areas.
Two army helicopters were dispatched to the affected area, according to The Kathmandu Post.
Authorities have urged people living along the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli river systems to remain cautious and rush to safer locations. The flood has moved downstream into the Trishuli river basin, prompting authorities to extend warnings to Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha and Chitwan.
