Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran on Wednesday resigned from his position but will continue in the role until the end of his current term in February 2027, according to Reuters.
The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity to Reuters due to the sensitivity of the development, did not provide a reason for Chandrasekaran’s resignation. Tata Sons has not immediately commented on the matter.
Chandrasekaran has been at the helm of Tata Sons since 2017, and his departure will mark a leadership transition at the holding company of the Tata Group, one of India’s largest business conglomerates.
Tata Sons oversees more than 30 companies, including Tata Consultancy Services, Tata Motors and Air India.

The question of Chandrasekaran’s continuation had already been a source of tension within the group. In February, Tata Sons deferred a decision on extending his tenure after Noel Tata, chairman of Tata Trusts, opposed his reappointment, Reuters had reported.
