Actor Aasif Khan is entering the Bigg Boss 20 house with something to prove. And no, it is not just that he can survive the reality show, but also that he is more than just his characters. In the last few years, he has been known as the ‘Damaad ji from Panchayat‘, an identity that came after his dialogue ‘Gajab is insulted‘ went viral. In an exclusive chat with India Today before entering the show, the actor shared that he wants viewers to see him as Aasif and not just his popular roles.
The 35-year-old also said the show completes a missing part of his career journey after theatre, films and OTT, and added that he wants to make his mark through humour and conversations rather than aggression inside the house.
“My identity is not limited to that of the angry son in law from Panchayat. I have also done several films and even popular shows like Mirzapur and Paatal Lok. But now it’s time people know me as Aasif, and relate to me as a person. I firmly believe that winning this show is not just about having a fan base; it’s about your capabilities. To win the show, you have to prove you are capable, and I am ready for it. I have the love of my fans, and with my hard work, I hope to win the season,” he shared.
Why he said yes to Bigg Boss
Having started with theatre before moving to films and then finding recognition in the OTT space, Aasif said television was the one medium he had not explored. He added that one of the biggest reasons for accepting the offer was the chance to be on a show hosted by Salman Khan.
“Bhai is one of the biggest reasons I said yes. I am a die-hard fan. I started with theatre, then did films and worked in the OTT space. Television was the one medium missing from my journey. If I had to do TV, there couldn’t be a bigger platform than Bigg Boss. This just completes the missing block in my career,” he added with a smile.
His game plan inside the house
Aasif said he is ready to give the show everything he has, but does not believe aggression is the only way to stand out. He said he would rather try to win people over with humour and conversations, while also suggesting that the house may reveal a side of him that audiences have not seen before.
“I will give this show 100 per cent. I am a soft-hearted person and an absolute team player, but there is also a hidden side to me that people may discover inside the house. I will try my best to make sure aggression isn’t needed. I would rather follow Mahatma Gandhi and stick to no aggression. I want to use humour and conversations instead,” the actor said.
Aasif on the contestants and family advice
Despite calling himself a Bigg Boss fan, Aasif said he has not religiously followed every season and has mostly kept up with the show through reels and clips. He said Ashutosh Kaushik’s season was among the ones he followed, while Sidharth Shukla remained his favourite winner. “I also followed Ashutosh Kaushik’s season, but Sidharth Shukla was my favourite winner. His personality really inspired me,” he said.
Aasif also said his mother and sister are ardent followers of the show and even watch the 24×7 live stream. According to him, their advice was simple: do not overthink the game and enjoy the experience. “My mother and sister are ardent fans, and even follow the 24×7 live stream. Their first piece of advice for me was that I should do the show (laughs). They also told me that you should experience everything that comes your way, and have a lot of fun. They are actually happier about me entering the house than I am,” Aasif concluded.
