Several people were injured in a police-involved shooting at a casino and resort in the US state of Nevada on Monday, authorities told the Associated Press. A suspect has been taken into custody, the agency said.
The shooting took place at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno. A spokesperson for the Washoe County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that the incident involved law enforcement officers but did not share further details.
The Reno Police Department urged residents to stay away from the area as multiple emergency vehicles, including ambulances, were seen outside the property. The exact number of those injured has not been confirmed.
In a post on social media, Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve said, “My heart breaks for the victims, their families, and our entire community. Reno is strong, but we are not immune to the epidemic of gun violence gripping this nation.”
Police are expected to release more information as the investigation continues.
