The scorching heat continues in the plains of the country. Heatwave alert has been issued in many areas of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Odisha and Delhi.
The Meteorological Department has warned of ‘Warm Night’ for the first time in 9 districts including Bhopal of Madhya Pradesh. In Maihar district, holiday has been declared in all schools up to class 5th till April 30.
Most parts of Uttar Pradesh are suffering due to extreme heat and drought. The mercury reached 44.6°C in Prayagraj. The temperature in 26 districts of the state was more than 40°C. The Meteorological Department has issued a heatwave alert in 26 districts on Tuesday.
The temperature was recorded at 43.8°C in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh. Here, cold showers were released under the misting system on platform number-1 of the railway station. The temperature of 8 districts including Patna of Bihar has recorded 42 degrees.
Temperatures of 40°C or above were recorded in 12 cities in Rajasthan on Monday. The highest temperature recorded in Kota was 42°C. The minimum night temperature recorded in Barmer was 29.6°C.

What is Warm Night Alert?
According to the Meteorological Department, when the minimum night temperature is much higher than normal, it is called ‘warm night’. This situation occurs when the night temperature is higher than normal by 4.5 to 6.4 degrees Celsius and the day temperature remains at 40 degrees or above. Due to this, there is no respite from the heat even at night and the weather remains unusually hot.

23 April:
There is a heatwave alert in MP, UP, Bihar, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Odisha and Rajasthan. Heavy rain may occur in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya.
24 April:
Gujarat, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu may experience hot and humid weather. There may be light rain with thunder in some parts of Telangana, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. There is a possibility of lightning in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.
