Mount Kailash is clearly visible from the 18 thousand feet high Lipulekh hills of Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand.
There is big news for the devotees waiting to visit Mount Kailash from India itself. From next week, the darshan of Mount Kailash will start from the hills of Old Lipulekh in Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand by MI-17 helicopter. Its announcement can be made in 2-3 days. The cost of this journey will be 75 thousand rupees.
Mount Kailash is in Tibet under Chinese rule and the China border is 10 km away from the view point. The height of the view point is more than 14 thousand feet. Therefore, the trip will be allowed only for people up to the age of 55 years.
The journey will take less than half the time compared to the old routes… Compared to earlier, the cost of travel this time is less than half. Till 2019, Indian citizens could reach Mount Kailash through three routes. First- Nepal, second- Old Lipulekh and third- Sikkim. The journey through these routes used to be completed in 11 to 22 days and cost Rs. 1.6 lakh to 2.5 lakh.
As soon as Corona arrived, China closed all three routes. Therefore, the Indian government found a way to provide Kailash Darshan from the hills of Old Lipulekh. This route has been built by BRO with great difficulty by cutting many mountains.
First you will have darshan of Adi Kailash
- Every traveler will have to undergo a health check-up at Dharchula (11 km from Pithoragarh). The permit will be given here.
- On the first day, we will reach Gunji village from Pithoragarh by helicopter. We will spend the night here.
- The next day we will go to Jollingkong by car to visit Adi Kailash. In the evening we will return to Gunji and spend the night there.
- On the third day we will return after visiting Kailash View Point. We will spend the third night in Gunji.
- Will return to Pithoragarh by helicopter on the fourth day.
The yatra will start from Pithoragarh. From here, the army’s MI-17 helicopter will take 15 pilgrims at a time to Gunji village, 30 km before Old Lipulekh. From here, four-by-four vehicles will take them 21 km ahead to Nabhidhang.
First, there will be a darshan of Om Parvat. Then the army and ITBP jawans will take the devotees 9 km ahead to Old Lipulekh Pass under their security. Here, the devotees will be shown the Kailash Parvat from the view point built on the peak.
Helicopter flights will start from 6 am According to Lalit Tiwari, DTO of Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam (KMVN), helicopter flights will operate from 6 am and will bring back all the devotees to Gunji village by 2 pm.
The package for this tour will be for 4 days. For this we have proposed an expenditure of Rs. 75 thousand per person. This includes helicopter-jeep fare, stay, food, hot water, quilts and mattresses etc. All the homestays of Gunji village have been booked. The state or central government can give subsidy in travel fare, but we have fixed this expense.
The journey was to start by road from September 15 According to Pithoragarh’s district tourism officer Kirtiraj Arya, the Kailash Parvat Yatra was to start by road from September 15, but the rains in the last two weeks have badly damaged many roads ahead of Bundi village. Therefore, the journey is starting by helicopter. The date of Kailash Darshan will be announced in the next four-five days.
