Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola opined that it might be difficult to catch up with table-toppers Arsenal if the Gunners manage to put  some distance between themselves and the chasing pack due to the quality in the London-based team.

Title aspirants Arsenal, under the tutelage of Mikel Arteta, Guardiola’s former protege at City, hold a 4-point lead over City at the end of 11 games.

“The truth is a team as strong as Arsenal I have a feeling they will not drop points, so if they go further ahead it will be impossible to catch,” the Spaniard said.

“Arsenal are an impeccable team. If they manage to take some distance in points, it will be difficult to catch up. Just like how it went with Liverpool,” Guardiola added.

“At the same time it is November. The aim is to be there March-April,” he added.

Guardiola also believes that the campaign gets underway for real now that the international breaks and the transfer windows are done and dusted for a considerable period of time.

“The season starts today. The transfer window and the three international breaks are behind us, and there won’t be another international break until March. So the season really begins now,” the City gaffer added.

City take on Newcastle in their upcoming fixture and the Catalan tactician opened up about his admiration of Magpies’ midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, who has been at the heart of the Newcastle project since his arrival on Tyneside.

“I’ve always been a big fan of Bruno,” the 54-year-old said.

“Since he was in Lyon you start to realise that he is a special player. Newcastle made an incredible signing. He’s an idol there,” he added.
