Barcelona superstar Lamine Yamal touched up on his influence on the game and the inspiration he has induced into the sport since his debut in a recent podcast, stating that he has realised a lot about life ever since the spotlight turned his way.
Yamal revealed that people from different walks of life have taken a shine to his skills on the field and the teenage sensation expressed his delight with the same.
“People have told me that they’ve started watching football again because of me. My mother watches all matches now,” Yamal said.
“People had stopped wearing football jerseys to school, now that trend is back,” he added.
“Even tourists, here in Barcelona, they get the Barca jersey with the number 10 on the back,” the star forward said.
“It has made me realize things,” the 18-year-old stated.
Since making his debut with the Blaugrana, Yamal has significantly influenced the football world, guiding them to the La Liga title last year under Hansi Flick’s management.
Yamal, who was born and raised in Spain, has Moroccan roots and had the eligibility to represent the African nation, but chose to don the famous La Roja drip and played a crucial role in Spain’s Euro 2024 title win.
Yamal’s extravagant lifestyle off the pitch has garnered extensive media coverage, and he has struggled with recurring groin injuries this season. However, his on-pitch abilities are indisputable.
His return to Barcelona coincided with the club’s return to the historic Camp Nou, which is undergoing renovations to increase its capacity.
Yamal scored in Blaugrana’s 3-1 victory over Alaves on Saturday, helping them reach the top of the La Liga standings after Real Madrid’s 1-1 draw at Girona.
