Salima Tete: Indian women’s hockey team confident of FIH World Cup medal after Nations Cup victory. They face China, England, South Africa.

Indian women’s hockey team captain Salima Tete has said that she has full belief in her team and, riding on the FIH Nations Cup win, they are confident of winning the upcoming FIH Hockey World Cup as well.
Salima believes the team’s recent Nations Cup win has boosted their confidence and strengthened their belief that they can challenge for the FIH Women’s World Cup 2026 title, despite being placed in a tough pool.
India head into the FIH World Cup on the back of their Nations Cup win in New Zealand, with Salima believing that the confidence and momentum from that success can inspire another medal-winning campaign on the biggest stage.
The FIH Hockey World Cup will be hosted by the Netherlands and Belgium from Saturday, August 15 to Sunday, August 30.
“This time, the FIH Hockey World Cup will be ours. We will play smart, attacking hockey and bring back a medal. I have full belief in my team. We can do it. Our last tournament in New Zealand, the FIH Nations Cup, was a great success,” Salima said while speaking on JioStar.
“We won it and brought home the medal. So this time, in the World Cup, our goal is the same. Every match counts and we will treat each one with equal importance,” Salima added.
All set to feature in her second FIH Hockey World Cup, the Indian skipper said that the team will focus on approaching every game with a winning mindset despite being placed in a challenging pool.
“Playing in the World Cup is every player’s dream. It is a huge opportunity for us. Just like the FIH Nations Cup and the FIH Pro League, top teams will be competing,” Salima said.
“With the Asian Games approaching as well, we know we will face strong teams. Our pool in the World Cup is challenging and we are preparing for tough matches,” Salima added.
India are grouped alongside China, England and South Africa in Pool D and will begin their campaign against China at the Wagener Stadium in Amstelveen on Sunday, August 16.
