Jewellery worth approximately Rs 1.5 crore has reportedly gone missing from a locker at the State Bank of India’s Kapurthala branch in Lucknow. The incident has raised serious questions about locker security.

The locker holder, Babita Sinha, a resident of Sopan Enclave in Aliganj, lodged an FIR at Aliganj police station against unknown bank employees. She stated that she had stored jewellery worth around Rs 1.5 crore in the locker.

Jewellery Found Missing During Locker Check

According to Babita Sinha, she visited the bank to check her locker on January 12, only to discover that the jewellery was missing. She immediately reported the matter to the police.

Police revealed that Babita Sinha’s husband, businessman Rajesh Sinha, who passed away some time ago, had reportedly taken a gold loan. Investigators are examining whether the jewellery was removed from the locker for this purpose.

Babita Sinha has denied having any information about her husband taking a gold loan. She maintains that the jewellery was intact when it was last stored in the locker.

No Signs Of Locker Tampering Found

Aliganj Inspector Ashok Kumar Sonkar said that a case has been registered against unknown persons based on the woman’s complaint. He added that initial investigations have found no signs of tampering with the locker.

CIBIL Records Under Scrutiny

Police stated that Rajesh Sinha’s CIBIL records indicate a gold loan transaction. Authorities are now verifying whether the jewellery in question was used as collateral.

This is not the first case of jewellery going missing from a bank locker in Lucknow. Earlier, jewellery worth Rs 1 crore had reportedly disappeared from a locker at the Bank of Baroda’s Koneshwar branch.
