The war between Iran, Israel and America has affected India as well as the entire world. There is panic in many places due to shortage in supply of petrol and LPG gas. In this regard, a picture surfaced from Barabanki district of Uttar Pradesh has exposed the difference between government schemes and ground reality. Here a person had to stand in line for about 9 hours to get a gas cylinder for his ailing parents.

The case is of Arun Kumar, resident of Tindola Barethi village of Banki block, who is a gardener by profession and works in Shahjahanpur. Arun is the only earning member of his family. He also has two school-going daughters in his family, while his parents are suffering from serious illnesses. His mother has recently suffered a brain haemorrhage and his father is suffering from cancer, due to which both are bedridden.

Arun told that there was no gas in the house, due to which cooking had become difficult. He had booked the cylinder four-five days in advance, but it could not be delivered on time. Under compulsion, he had to take leave from work and come to the village.

He told that after taking leave from work and coming home 200 kilometers away, he walked about 8 kilometers from his home at around 3 am on Wednesday, reached the gas agency and stood in the queue. The agency opens at 10 am, but even before that there was a long queue. He could get the cylinder at around 12 o’clock.

Arun says that due to rising prices and irregular supply of gas, cooking even daily food has become a challenge for poor families. He told that he is able to come home only once a month and during that time he makes necessary arrangements for the family.

According to the agency, after the matter came to light, the district administration also took cognizance. District Supply Officer Rakesh Tiwari said that information has been taken from the agency and the gas cylinder was made available to the concerned consumer on the same day. Besides, he has also been given the contact number of the agency, so that delivery of the cylinder at home can be ensured in future.

Arun also confirmed that he has received the cylinder and further arrangements have been made. However, this incident definitely shows that at the grassroots level many people still have to struggle for basic facilities.
