Bihar BJP president Nitin Nabin on Thursday praised the governance model of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, describing law and order as the state’s biggest strength under his leadership.
Speaking to Rahul Joshi, Managing Director and Group Editor-in-Chief of the Network18 Group, Nabin said Uttar Pradesh has undergone a fundamental transformation over the past few years.
“UP was once identified with corruption, extortion and caste-driven politics. Today, it is known for development, infrastructure and expressways,” he said, adding that the state is now being viewed as a developing growth hub.
According to him, the BJP government has ensured that welfare schemes reach the grassroots and that improved law and order has boosted investor confidence.
“The impact of law and order is clearly visible. Several cities are witnessing development and large-scale investments. These factors are strong enough to justify a third term,” Nabin said, praising what he termed the ‘Yogi model’ of governance.
Responding to questions on why the BJP faced a setback in Uttar Pradesh during the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, Nabin acknowledged shortcomings but downplayed concerns of any structural failure.
“Every election comes with its own set of circumstances. We fell short on certain fronts, and the party is reviewing those aspects,” he said, without going into specific details.
The BJP’s performance in Uttar Pradesh marked a significant shift in the political landscape.
Of the state’s 80 Lok Sabha seats, the party won 33, down sharply from the 62 seats it had secured in 2019.
The Samajwadi Party emerged as the single largest party with 37 seats, while the Indian National Congress won six seats, strengthening the opposition INDIA bloc’s presence in the state.
Despite the setback, BJP leaders maintain that the party’s core governance agenda in Uttar Pradesh, anchored around law and order, infrastructure and welfare delivery, continues to resonate with the public and will remain central to its political strategy going forward.
